An Introduction to Hydroponic Growing systems

Hydroponics is a water-based plant growing method that utilises a nutrient rich solution. When growing this way the root system of the plant is supported by the use of an inertia medium such as clay pellets. The reason behind these growing systems is to allow the roots of the plant to be in direct contact with the solution with nutrients. This in addition to access to oxygen ensures proper growth.

Advantages of Hydroponics

There are many advantages of growing hydroponically, some of which include:

Hydroponics increases the growth rate of plants.

Your plants mature faster and grow bigger as compared to those in the natural conditions.

Hydroponics uses less water than the soil based plants.

Disadvantages of Hydroponics

Some of the disadvantages of growing this way are:

Hydroponics growing systems are expensive.

Hydroponics equipment takes a lot of set up time.

Pump failure can kill all your plants within a few hours.

Hydroponic Systems

Hydroponics growing is not a one-system method. There are many different hydroponics growing methods available for people to choose from including but not limited to the following:

Deepwater Culture – This is the easiest plant growing method with hydroponics. The nutrient solution in the grow kits used is oxygenated by an aquarium air pump thus keeping the suspended plant roots from drowning.

Nutrient Film Technique – This type of system allows a continuous nutrient solution flow over the roots of the plants. The solution is placed on a tilted area so that it can flow with gravitational force.

Aeroponics – Roots here are suspended in air and misted with a nutrient solution. The roots are misted by use of a fine spray nozzle or by use of a pond fogger.

Why Chose Hydroponic Growing

Hydroponics has proven to be the best choice because it gives the grower the ability to control the nutrients that affect the growth of his plants in the grow tents. This process ensures production of high-quality yield.
